In the early 1900’s, Mary Byrne and Eleanor Hull created the hymn, Be Thou My Vision. This song has stood test of time and have been sung for the past century by millions of people in the church. The lyrics point us directly to the Lord and declare the eternal hope of heaven that is available to us through Jesus Christ.
Often, songwriters will take familiar hymns and put a modern twist to the song. Depending on the church, culture, or event, different renditions can powerfully impact many people.
Citizens & Saints took Be Thou My Vision and added some rhythmic elements to the hymn. Not only do the drums provide a modern groove to the song, there is a unique “hook” in each instrumental section played by the electric guitar. This rendition of Be Thou My Vision can be incorporated and used in any church.
We are singing this song on Sunday at Gospel Community Church. I know that we will love declaring that Christ is our vision and ultimate ruler of all!
