I love word pictures. Sometimes a simple sentence can paint a beautiful landscape in our minds. For example…The athlete is as fast as a shooting star. That tree is as tall as Mount Everest. The food at that restaurant reminds me of my grandmother’s cooking. In the Bible, Psalm 113:3 (NIV) says, “From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised.“
Word pictures help us appreciate things, look forward to events, and deeply worship God. When I see lyrics that describe an attribute of God and magnifies the Lord, I am drawn out of the small petty things that weigh me down.
The lyrics that All Sons and Daughters wrote in Rising Sun, exemplify great use of word pictures. The song is profound in how we can worship God. Parts of the song reminds me of Psalm 113:3. Other parts exalts God as being higher than anything we can see…even higher than the “Rising Sun.”
From a musical standpoint, Rising Sun is easy to sing and fun to play as a band. Any size congregation can worship God with this song, and Rising Sun can be a classic praise song for your church.
We will be singing this song tomorrow at Gospel Community Church, and I am looking forward to worshiping God as a church with this song!
